My good friend that I met in church was Bill and like so many of the folks in our Encore Senior Congregation he had some remarkable stories.
Bill went to war as a young man in the South Pacific and saw all of the bloody and brutal mess that was in the war against Japan. But Bill told me that he was not a combat guy and he admired them greatly, but he had some unusual leadership and organizational gifts and his skill and training was in transportation, logistics, and getting the supplies to the men who did the fighting.
The Army recognized this vital gift and that is what he did. Moving men and material into the places of combat and conflict. Vital work indeed.
Bill returned to his home in Seattle and because of his experience in shipping and transport he soon found work in the harbor and docks of the massive ships sailing in and out of Seattle.
Bill was smart enough to realize that the then longshoreman way of loading the cargo into large nets that were then lifted and put into the hold of the ship where they were then packed was inefficient. And so with a team of old friends and smart thinkers came up with the idea of putting all the goods into a big box or container first, and then putting the whole big box into the boat would be a good experiment.
And you can see the rest of the story coming.! The revolutionary idea of shipping by containers was born and Bill was one of the founding folks in that kind of work. He later sold his interest for a goodly sum. But he was not done and went on to build a whole series of businesses that he grew, and then sold, and moved on to another. Indeed the successful Serial Entrepreneur.
Bill is obviously in his later years now and we became good friends. And when I showed him the diagram and the story of what I am going to show you in this video, he came up to me after church one Sunday and said to me, This is How I Became a Millionaire Entrepreneur Stan .. And how did you know that? ... This is genius .. Share it with the world!
Well that's the story and now I will do what Bill told me to do.
